Every summer, the Grist Mill features some exceptional classical, traditional, folk, roots, world music, and acoustic blues talents as they perform in the heritage gardens near our 1877 waterwheel-powered flour mill. We’re only a half hour drive from Penticton, OK Falls, Oliver or Osoyoos–come visit one of the most charming concert venues in the South Okanagan and Similkameen.
In July 1971, 18 year old Roy Forbes left his northern B.C. hometown of Dawson Creek for the bright lights of Vancouver. His songwriting, singing and guitar playing landed him immediate local attention with a late 1971 headline-making appearance at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre, just one of the highlights of his first few months in the big city.
Roy and his trusty Gurian guitar have toured extensively in Canada and the US over these past three decades. From the early days of small coffee houses and opening act slots with artists like John Lee Hooker, Supertramp, The Earl Scruggs Revue and Santana to eventually selling out his own shows and headlining most of the major Folk Music festivals in Canada, Roy has developed into one of Canada’s best loved acoustic performers.
Through the years Roy has made a bunch of solo albums (including one for US giant Elektra) plus two with UHF (the ‘once-in-a-while’ group he shares with Shari Ulrich and Bill Henderson), as well as a Christmas album with Connie Kaldor. The first, ‘Kid Full Of Dreams’, received a Juno nomination in 1976 while 1998’s ‘Crazy Old Moon’, received a 1999 Juno nomination and a 1999 West Coast Music Award, one of several WCMAs Roy has received over the years.
KEY CONCERT SERIES INFO
Through the summer of 2018, the Grist Mill and Gardens at Keremeos will be hosting a variety of exceptional artists in June, July, August and September for an evening concert series in our picturesque Historic Site. Unless otherwise noted, doors open at 6:00PM and concerts start at 7:00PM.
You are encouraged to bring your own blankets and low-rise lawn chairs; taller chairs are also welcome, but you may be asked to sit in the back to avoid obstructing the view of others. You’re welcome to bring your own water bottles (reusable or factory-sealed) but outside food or drinks are prohibited on site. The Grist Mill & Gardens will be operating a concession at each show.
Starting in late February, tickets will be available for sale at the Grist Mill front desk ($20 per show), by phone at 250-499-2888 during business hours (daily 10 AM-4 PM) or on this site.
